BSYO is a non-for-profit youth orchestra that aims to develop collaboration, leadership and mentorship in young musicians.
BSYO is a non-for-profit youth orchestra that aims to develop collaboration, leadership and mentorship in young musicians.
BSYO is here to serve the interests of its members and exemplify excellence in musical education for all youth instrumentalists from strings and woodwinds to brass and percussion.
This full orchestra will perform at concerts and events as a symphony, a jazz band and a wind ensemble.
Our performances also include great opportunities for chamber groups as they will join us at concerts and integrate themselves as part of the group. Our community will come together to witness the great development and progress everyone has made throughout our rehearsals together!
At BSYO, musicians learn that leadership begins with one's actions. They learn to listen to others, take initiative and ask for help. While creating music together, musicians learn that a good leader not only leads but also follows as they must consider the needs of those around them.
At BSYO, leadership is about improving the group rather than promoting oneself.
While BSYO encourages independence, it also teaches musicians that collaboration is an essential piece to everything we do, as an orchestra without collaboration could not function or exist. This sense of collaboration is not only important in a musical setting, but is a transferable skill that young musicians can and will take with them as they forge their own paths in life.
As BSYO spans many ages, the value of mentorship is learned at every practice session and concert. The children aren’t told but are rather shown that learning from their peers motivates and inspires them. As they see firsthand the importance of these mentor-mentee relationships, they will then want to give back to the community and in turn will become mentors for the younger aspiring musicians.
The BSYO will be preforming festive and jazz pieces!
